INDIE HOPS VARIETIES

PUBLIC VARIETIES

Thoughtfully crafted and selected hops to meet your brewing needs.

A long time ago, when craft was still in it’s infancy…

We embarked on a long-term plan to help craft brewers keep beer lovers excited. As craft beer enthusiasts and brewers, we believed in the future of craft and felt that craft brewers would need a hop supply more tailored to their needs. We had the experience and resources to give it a go, so Indie Hops was born—and we set about to develop our own world-class hop varieties, as well as offer public varieties that thrive in Oregon terroir.

That was way back in 2009. Today, Indie Hops Strata, Meridian, Lórien and Luminosa are adding unique flavors to successful beers worldwide, and Oregon-grown varieties such as Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, Crystal, Sterling and others provide a premium version of these classics.

Our customers range from small start-ups to some of the largest global craft breweries.  We’d appreciate the opportunity to work with your brewery as well!  We’re a hop company that sprang to life from a passion for well-crafted beer, much like many breweries did.  And we’re a bit obsessed with hops.  You probably are too!

Welcome to Indie Hops!

FLAVOR PROJECT

Craft beer hops crafted here.

indie: short for independent—thinking or acting for oneself

flavor: the quality of something that affects the sense of taste

project: a collaborative undertaking, typically one that is difficult or requires effort, that is carefully planned to achieve a particular aim

Since our inception, many have called our approach “novel” or “outside-the-box.” We are humbled by the compliment. Our name Indie Hops reflects our own independent mindsets and was also inspired by the craft marketplace itself full of small, independent (and independent-minded!) brewers. In 2020, we shifted our company tagline from “Oregon Bred” to “Flavor Project.” Our hops are still 100% Oregon bred—and being Oregon raised ourselves, we’re super proud of that! We ultimately landed on “Flavor Project” because similar to an exceptionally crafted beer, exceptionally crafted hops result from numerous factors.

Oregon grown.

In addition to our own varieties, we supply classic public hop varieties that thrive in Oregon’s unique terroir.  Like your favorite Levis or Converse, these old-school hops never go out of style and continue to withstand the test of time for a reason. From the rounded, juicy version of Chinook to the grapefruit, lemon/citrus-with-a-rhubarb-twang flavors found in our Oregon-grown Crystal, these highly desirable traits are specific to the Oregon terroir where the hops are grown.
